To have an astonishing panorama of the state of landscape and gardening creation in the world, the International Garden Festival of the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire is the event not to be missed. Since its creation in 1992, over the years it has established itself as a laboratory of ideas from which prototypes of the gardens of tomorrow emerge.
This year, the 2012 edition takes on a special character as the festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To properly celebrate the event, it's on the theme "Gardens of delights, gardens of delusions"That designers, landscape artists, architects, scenographers and gardeners from all over the world had to compose and show imagination. Out of the hundred or so proposals received, 21 astonishing, magical or even innovative projects were selected by the members of the jury chaired for the occasion by the famous chef, Alain Passard.
Delicious delights and delicacies
From the psyche-delight garden to the earthly paradise, via the garden of delicious delusions, the blue garden of Absolem or the garden of Sleeping Beauty, visitors wander from one dreamlike world to another. True cabinets of curiosities, they are full of ideas and fantasy. It is therefore not surprising to come across an army of garden gnomes or red foxes on this walk. In fact, each of these places has its own set of surprises, to the delight of amateurs and professionals alike in the horticultural world. Extraordinary topiaries, phenomenal vegetables or fruits, pocket jungles, prodigious plants, botanical eccentricities… will delight everyone.
A reference to the garden as a high place of harmony and fertility, these creations are therefore reminiscent of Eden and the idyllic landscapes of Arcadia. Field of the development of all the senses, this festival celebrates happiness, euphoria, bliss, but also eccentricity and daring. And as underlined in the book presenting the festival the President of the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, François Barré , "Whether they take us into the depths of the unconscious, the madness of vegetables or the charms of paradise, the gardens of this exceptional edition promise once again to invent, sometimes to provoke, always to make the visitor dream, so that everyone keeps in mind a poetic image, a unique idea, a surprising invention to reproduce in their garden. "
The Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival will close its doors on October 21. So, for those who have yet to admire these little wonders, it is high time to rush to them.
